A Sweet Escape: Sugar and Plumm
Few places truly embody their slogans, but after a lovely late lunch last weekend, I can assure you that the staff Sugar and Plumm are, in fact, Purveyors of Yumm!
Tucked in among the Bergen Outlets, this gem is the cutest candy store/restaurant I’ve ever seen. The interior storefront features bright colors and confections to catch the eye of the wandering shopper and once you’re inside, it’s impossible not to smile! The sparkling candy arrangements and adorable knick-knacks threw me back into childhood – I was literally a “kid” in a candy store again.
Pastel walls with over-sized artwork were topped with fluffy “clouds” moving against the muted ceiling, and artistically jarred candy pearls were stacked straight to the “sky”.

The menu boasts a selection of dependable go-tos as well as some more modern fare – we chose a light hummus and olives appetizer, which was the perfect savory balance to our sweet entrees.

At the suggestion of our waiter, most of the party ordered the Chicken & Waffles, while I opted for the Bacon & Egg Waffles, but the entire meal can be described as simply delicious.

I was pleasantly surprised to spot this BYOB sign, I suppose it’s part of an attempt to expand the restaurant’s appeal to adult patrons, and it worked on me! I will definitely be going back to this sweet escape for a dinner date.

p.s. How adorable is the candy-studded bench?

It’s so cute and colorful! I’m drooling a bit over the waffles (minus the meats).
